Riparian Revegetation

Revegetation and Wildlife Management Center is a company which specializes in wildlife habitat restoration and wildlife studies. Most of our work is in the lower Colorado River Valley of Western Arizona and Southeastern California . Other projects have been done in the Coachella, Santa Clara , and Kern River Valleys in California to Rio Grande in the Texas Panhandle. We integrate research and development with all of our restoration projects.

Revegetation and Wildlife Management Center is the leader in Desert Riparian revegetation in the Desert Southwest with projects ranging from less than an acre to 200 acres. The typical size of a revegetation project has been 25-30 acres. Our proven method has converted hundreds of acres to native riparian habitat. Some sites are not suitable for revegetation without soil reclamation. The proper treatment of a site is determined by a preliminary soil analysis.

Our cost for the revegetation is surprisingly low, especially considering the cost of a typical landscaping project. Cost per acre varies depending on the contiguous size of the site, extent of reclamation needed, and proximity to one of our offices (Blythe and Hemet, California ).  Most of our sites are within 150 miles of an office. If you would like a quote, please contact us and give us a description of what needs to be done. We can send a representative to the site and schedule a preliminary analysis to determine the extent of work needed to achieve the desired objectives.

Whether you are a manager, developer, engineer or planner, involved with meeting mitigation or wildlife enhancement requirements we offer the very best revegetation and wildlife services available. With our knowledge base and experience we can be very helpful in offering a viable vegetation plan, implement it, and handle required monitoring and reports to government agencies.

We also do consulting for revegetation and restoration projects.

Soil Suitability Studies

We have been doing soil testing including soil sampling and soil analyses for restoration projects, revegetation projects, and potential revegetation projects for 21 years. A typical soil analysis includes soil texture, soil salinity, soil moisture, and depth to the water table. Soil moisture analysis results are reported as percentage of water mass per dry soil mass. A typical soil salinity analysis involves extracting water from a saturated soil paste and testing the electrical conductivity of the extracted water with a conductivity meter. From past data analyses, we can determine the suitability of an area for revegetation, which species are most likely to thrive and measures that might be required to meet objectives. We have a large data base of soil texture and soil salinity from the Salton Sea area in Southwestern California.

Vegetation Analysis

In a typical vegeatation analysis, we record vegetation species abundance, condition and height at vegetated sample points distributed systematically over a site. In riparian areas we use the Anderson and Ohmart method of vegetation classification. We also do work involving checking for occurrences endangered and threatened species.

Irrigation System Design

We design drip irrigation systems for revegetation projects. Contact us and we can arrange for a site visit, determine the size and shape of the site and the location of the water source. From this we can design the irrigation system and determine the cost for materials.

Wildlife Monitoring

Wildlife monitoring has included bird and mammal censusing. Typically the monitoring is done monthly to capture variation in use by species throughout the year. Many bird species are migratory and rodent activity varies with the seasons. We have also conducted studies in the diet of bird species in conjunction with insect use of riparian habitats. Currently we are involved with a study on the variation between white-cheeked goose populations in the United States and Canada.

Biological Surveys

We do bird censusing on desert and riparian habitats of Southeastern California and Southwestern Arizona. We also have a large database from bird censuses that we have conducted on the middle and upper Pecos River in Mew Mexico, and the Bill Williams River, and Gila River in western Arizona. We have been doing most of our work and bird census data collecting along the lower Colorado River of western Arizona and southeastern California.

Biological Surveys for Impact Statements

Biological surveys include an inventory and assessment of the flora and fauna within and adjacent to a proposed project area with emphasis on identifying endangered, threatened, and locally unique species and sensitive habitats. Vegetation cover types including acreage and distribution are also included.

For developers, we include a report with discussion on direct, indirect, cumulative, and growth-inducing impacts expected to adversely affect biological resources. We also make recommendations for mitigation measures for project impacts to sensitive plants, animals, and habitats.

Experimental Design

Do you have an experiment in mind but not sure about how to do it? Let us design your experiment for you. We design experiments that adhere to the scientific method, taking into account sample sizes needed for desired accuracy, valid methods of sampling, and procedures to follow.

Technical Report Writing

We write technical reports for our own projects as well as for biological projects done by others. Such projects may include research on wildlife (including birds), plants, or evolution. We also can write for student science projects or review papers to check for scientific validity of procedures and methods of presentation.

Data Analysis

We can do a statistical analysis of your data to find what kinds of conclusions can be drawn and the probabilities associated with inferences.
